Celebrating its second anniversary, Kitchen on San Marco, a casual dining experience featuring regional cuisine, is located in the historic Jacksonville neighborhood included in its name. Supporting Culinard, part of Virginia College, Kitchen on San Marco serves as a teaching kitchen providing instruction to students working toward a culinary certificate. Executive Chef Ryan Randolph hails from Tennessee, growing up on his family’s farm and helping to broaden and enrich the farm-to-table dining experience in Chattanooga,Tennessee before making his home in Jacksonville.

From their web site statement we read: “Our Farm to Table philosophy is based on four key areas: Fresh, regional, seasonal and sustainable”. There is an expectation that Kitchen on San Marco’s dining experience will be a true example of what Slow Food supports. Local artisans, ranchers, fish mongers and farmers contribute the fresh, regional and seasonal ingredients of the restaurant This local and regional partnership is clear from the menu and reading the long list of producers on the chalkboard along the wall. Producers include: Congaree and Penn, Veggie Confetti Farms, Bacon’s Produce, Bethesda Farm, Grass Roots Farm, Benton’s Smoky Mountain Country Hams, Anson Mills, Urban Folk Farms and Frog Song Organics. San Marco Kitchen calls itself a gastro pub and to that end there are over a dozen regional craft brews and spirits listed on the chalkboard. The menu includes Snacks, Soups and Salads, Plates and Shares. Some highlights featuring local and southern sourced items include: Boiled Peanut Hummus, Farm Salad, Homemade Charcuterie, and favorites like Grit Fries, Shrimp and Grits and Fried Local Fish.

The Slow Food Snail of Approval will join many other awards received by Kitchen on San Marco recognizing their commitment to the community, local farmers, artisans, producers and future chefs. The restaurant team is proud to showcase and cultivate the local food sources available in the South.
