St. Patrick’s Garden

Right off of SR 13 in St. John’s the St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church members are growing organic produce for their community outreach program, Feed My Lambs, under the capable oversight of master gardener Cathy Guevera. This innovative project is the first of its kind in the area. The garden was started two years ago with 4 raised beds and now has 12 beds of seasonal produce to distribute along with other food staples, through the Homeless Coalition in St. Augustine and to the homes of children who receive free or reduced lunches. There are many hands and hearts which contribute to the success of this program from raising tender seedlings at home, to maintaining the garden throughout the growing seasons, and delivering the bounty from this garden. In addition to the education and maintenance components of this garden, the parish employs its own composting system where parishioners contribute waste from church functions and bring organic materials from home.  The composted organic material enriches the soil in the garden beds.  No chemicals or pesticides are used.
