Dog Day Gardens, a nursery, garden, composting business, and educational resource, has its home in a quiet neighborhood in St. Augustine. The gardens provide the area with heirloom vegetable seedlings, finished compost and worm castings, garden installation services, and specialty produce, using clean and sustainable practices. Shelby Stec and Skyler Dixon have devoted their property organic production methods to produce healthy vegetable starts that supply not only consumers at the farmers markets but local businesses as well. In addition, Shelby offers educational program opportunities that share her considerable knowledge and experience, and hopes to soon involve customers in a “bucket to bucket” compost exchange.  With this exchange program individuals who cannot make their own compost can bring their compostables -in a bucket- to Shelby and Skyler in exchange for a clean bucket and discounted farm offerings.

Pesticide free practices are employed here using paper collars, diatomaceous earth, companion plantings, and the hand removal of insects.  Drip irrigation as well as hand watering is used.  This garden is enriched with home produced compost.  Gardening services include: consultation and custom garden plans, construction and installation of raised beds, garden maintenance and management. Education is a top priority at Dag Day Gardens.  Watch for upcoming opportunities to learn about producing good, clean, and fair food.
